CONGRESSIONAL ACTION NEEDED TO ALLEVIATE PORTS ISSUES
Dairy exports reached record values and volumes in 2021. That’s something to celebrate – but it also makes it too easy to gloss over the significant challenges U.S. dairy exporters are facing at the nation’s ports, where shipping constraints are impeding sales. Exports, and ultimately, dairy farmers’ milk checks, would be higher without the warehoused inventories and higher shipping costs and fees that dairy farmers and their cooperatives are absorbing to manage supplies and output to deal with ocean carrier and supply chain congestion issues.
